the Modern Glam house

Welcome to University Road! This brand new semi-dethatched house came as a blank canvas when it first obtained its TOP. Working closely with its new owner, a suite of treatments was meticulously designed and customized to take advantage of its interior architecture features. The result? A modern glamorous interior which harmonizes aesthetics with key interior architectural features.

3 key architectural features stand out in the first floor - First, a 5.2m double volume ceiling offering visual expansion to the entire space; Second, a flight of skeletal staircase with a center stringer leading into the mezzanine floor; and lastly, a cantilevered family area in the mezzanine hanging above the entrance which overlooks the living room.

Capitalizing on the ceiling height in level 1, the design language in level one speaks of sleek vertical lines, presented in the forms of flutes, slim mirrors and vertical floor to ceiling strip lighting. Slabs of Superpanda marble from Antolini were intentionally bookmatch in an artistic fashion breaking the otherwise monotonous conventions of the vertical lines in this space.

An indoor Zen garden sits under the staircase, complimented by the skeletal design, offers a sense of serenity. The pops of greens on the bonsai leaves, accompanied by the stones and the white and grey pebbles lends a quaint picturesque view to this area.

Curves were introduced via the loose furniture and fittings, smoothening the lines and angles around level one. The seating area is fitted with Nicoline Italia’s curved sofa, Oliver Tub’s swivel chair sitting over the round carpet. This set is competed by Moooi’s Heracleum pendant lights with its intricate leaf like individual led bulbs softly illuminating the space. Over at the dining, Bontempi’s Artistico barrel shaped dining table takes centerstage and is paired with Tonin Casa’s Agata chair on one side and Hamilton Conte’s Penelope bench on the other.

Family Area

Just above the living room is the mezzanine, a private space which feels like an extension of the living room. This space takes on the same features as the living room with the double volume ceiling and skeletal stairs. This family area is a cozy enclave decorated with a customised pendant light to match the limited edition metal wall sculpture by David Gerstein. The seating area is also furnished with a sofa set by Nicoline Italia.

To the right of the seating area is the mahjong room which overlooks the living room. This space is fitted with an automatic mahjong table in the middle which comfortably sits 4 people for a night long of games.

The other corner is a balcony which was transformed into a relaxing space fitted with a Zen garden and sitting areas.

The Master & Junior Master Bedrooms

The master bedroom takes up the entire level 2, with the resting quarters and the walk-in wardrobe taking up each corners of the house. In the attic, the Junior Master is merged with a common bedroom to be transformed into a work/study area. Due to the unique architecture of the rooms, the ceiling is designed in consideration of the beams in the bedrooms.

Curves were introduced to soften the angular setting of each bedroom. Accentuating the neutral and sleek tones in each bedroom, the wallpaper and fabric with motifs heightens the depth in the overall understated built-ins.
